Location HistoryAs the name suggests, Golden Bay is known for beautiful golden sands and postcard perfect shores. Originally called Peelhurst, the suburb changed its name in 1985 to reflect the true beauty of the area – a real jewel in the Peel region. As a tribute to the rich history of this area, this exciting new estate will take on the Peelhurst name once again. Golden Bay is located in the local government area of Rockingham. Rockingham features significantly in Western Australia’s history. The first Europeans in the area are believed to be Dutch explorers in the late 1600s, with the British establishing the third colony in Australia (and the first without convicts) at Garden Island in 1829. The late 1800s saw the rapid growth of the jarrah timber industry in Rockingham, and in 1897 the township of Rockingham was formally recognised with its own local government – the Rockingham Road Board. It wasn’t long before the area became a coastal hotspot for tourists in the early 1900s – a popularity that still remains strong today. The city of Rockingham boasts an enviable mix of natural wonders and cultural attractions. From bird watching, penguin spotting, snorkeling, boating, and fishing to wine tasting, museums, and arts and crafts – visitors and residents are spoilt for choice. |
